A Displaced Heart

Displaced Heart is a Photo Essay looking at the life of displaced Palestinians living in Refugee Camps within the West Bank.

Shot over the two weeks in Nov 2012 where intense rocket exchanges between Gaza and Israel dominated the main media headlines, this story intends to show what life is like on the other side of Palestinian territories, far away from the rocket fire and press convoys, where the day to day life of normal Palestinians may not be seen as newsworthy.

Clashes In Aida Refugee Camp

Today saw clashes between Palestinian residents of Aida Refugee Camp, and the Israelis IDF as the conflict with Gaza appeared to spill onto the streets of Bethlehem. It is not clear what instigated the entry of Israelis soldiers into the camp, however once inside; there was a flurry of tear gas, rubber bullets, M16 fire and a water cannon being fired at the Palestinians, who proceeded to returned fire with rocks and catapults.

Balata Refugee Camp - Palestine

While Gaza and Israel are continuing to exchange rocket fire in the west of the country, I have spent the last few days living in the Balata Refugee camp in the north of the country. Inhabited by 30'000 people living within half a square Kilometre it is one of the most densely populated Camps within the country, the people of which are still feeling the affects of previous conflicts similar to which we are currently witnessing.

Jerusalem & West Bank

I am currently initiating a new project in and around the Palestinian West Bank. I flew into Israel yesterday and had a day to kill before I start meeting up with people so decided to take walk round the Old City of Jerusalem. Below are some of my images from the day.
